A survey by Arthur Andersen ranked Ulster County #1 nationwide for its low labor and real estate costs.
For more than 40 years, Ulster County was home to 10,000 of IBM's hi-tech and manufacturing workers. Reluctant to give up their high quality of life, nearly 30% of Ulster County's workers now commute more than one hour each way to work - and more than half of those commute 1½ hours to New York City. Nearly 80% of these workers would prefer to work in Ulster County, providing immediate access to a highly trained labor pool.
